Student Absence

Notification of Absence

The school needs to know when a student is absent. If your child is taken ill or cannot make it into school for whatever reason, we would appreciate you contacting us. You can call the Main Office on 01529 302181 and leave a message, email the school at  enquiries@carres.uk or contact us through MCAS. Please make sure you let us know your child’s full name, form, and the reason why your child is absent.

If your child has a dentist/doctor or other appointment and has to leave school early, please write and sign a short note in their planner for them to show their class teacher and the staff in reception when signing out. All students must sign out at reception before leaving the school site in case of a fire so they can be identified as being off site during an evacuation.

Request for Absence in School Time

Guidance Notes

Subject teachers are expected to deliver the school curriculum within a tight timescale, and the absence of students during term time has a detrimental effect on learning.

Parents/carers do not have an automatic right to take a child from school. Permission must be obtained in advance.

If an authorised absence is requested, details of the absence and the family’s circumstances should be submitted using the form in the downloads section below. Parents/carers must also state the exceptional circumstances for requesting their child to take such time off school.

If a student is kept away for longer than the period agreed the additional time will normally be treated as unauthorised. Similarly, if a child is taken away without prior written permission, this will be recorded as unauthorised absence.

Your child will be expected to catch up with any work that they miss while away from school.

Any absence means that important schooling is missed. PLEASE consider the effect on your child's education of time off taken during term-time.
