The department consists of two rooms, one of which has a Printing area with 2 printing presses, a computer area (networked computers, colour printer)

The Art Room has direct access to a small garden area where students can produce larger scale/outdoor work.

Key Stage 3

KS3 classes receive 1 hour of Art per week. In Year 7, units of work cover foundation skills including basic drawing techniques, mark-making, an introduction to new media and techniques and colour theory. Year 8 and 9, units of work cover skills which incorporate portraiture, figure drawing, architecture, multicultural studies, and the introduction to 3D work and various 3D making skills.

Key Stage 4 – GCSE

The Art Department follows the OCR GCSE specification, allowing students freedom to explore a full range of Art directions and specialisms, including Painting and Drawing, Printmaking, Photography, and various 3D outlets. Students receive 5 hours of Art per fortnight. The course is 60% Coursework portfolio and 40% exam portfolio (concluding piece for which is done in a 10 hour practical exam in April of Yr 11)

A level

A level is available as part of the SJSF

Extra curricular opportunities

The Art Department provides lunchtime Art sessions and 1 after school session a week is also available to GCSE and Alevel students. The department has also run various other exciting opportunities including visiting Artists, trips to galleries and exhibitions, participation in events such as Sleaford in Bloom and Heckington Show and overseas trips to both Barcelona (2008, 2009) and Prague (2010)
 
2011/2012 saw Carre's become an 'Arts Award Good Practice Centre'
