The event was a tremendous success, welcoming 307 children from 13 primary schools across the local area. We were also delighted to be supported by 30 student leaders from Carre’s Grammar School and Kesteven & Sleaford High School (KSHS), who volunteered throughout the day and demonstrated outstanding teamwork, leadership and enthusiasm.

The morning session saw 91 Sports Crew members from the participating primary schools design and lead their own activity stations for Year 3 and Year 4 pupils. The young leaders confidently delivered creative and engaging activities, showcasing their organisation, communication and leadership skills.

In the afternoon, the Sports Crews had the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities delivered by local community clubs and organisations, including Sleaford Korean Martial Arts, Better Gym, Nerf, Sleaford Gymnastics, England Golf and YMCA Parkour. These sessions gave pupils the chance to experience new sports and develop new skills in a fun and supportive environment.

A special highlight of the day was a visit from Lenny the Lion, one of the Three Lions mascots, who was a huge hit with the children, greeting participants with high-fives, smiles and plenty of photo opportunities.

To embrace the World Cup theme, each school was allocated a country and invited to create a banner representing their nation for the opening parade. Congratulations to Mrs Mary King’s Primary School, who won first prize in the banner competition, and to Navenby Church of England Primary School, who received the award for creating the most inclusive sports station.

Community Games Day once again provided local primary school children with a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a wide range of sporting activities, represent their schools with pride, and celebrate teamwork, inclusion and community spirit. Following the success of this year’s event, planning is already underway for the 2027 Community Games Day, and we look forward to building on another memorable day of sport and collaboration.
