Foreword

As we move through another busy and successful fortnight, it has been particularly pleasing to see the strong and lasting connections that our former students continue to have with the school. There can be no greater endorsement of a school community than when former students choose to return and invest their time in supporting the next generation. This edition includes news from Daniel, our former Head Boy, whose work with the Holocaust Education Trust is both inspiring and impactful. We are always proud to hear about the achievements of our alumni and grateful when they choose to share their experiences and expertise with our current students.

You will also see our latest Teams of the Week, recognising those students who have accumulated the highest number of positive points. Congratulations to everyone featured. It is wonderful to celebrate students who consistently demonstrate our values through their effort, attitude and contribution to school life. I am sure that in the weeks ahead we will see many more names joining these teams as students continue to embrace the opportunities available to them.

Speaking of opportunities, I would encourage all students, and parents supporting them, to have a look at the wide range of clubs, activities and enrichment opportunities highlighted throughout this newsletter. Participation beyond the classroom plays such an important role in developing confidence, friendships, skills and interests, and there is truly something for everyone.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support of the school. Together, we continue to build a community in which students not only succeed during their time with us but remain proud to be part of it long after they leave. I hope you enjoy reading this edition of the newsletter and wish you all a positive and rewarding fortnight ahead.

Best wishes.

Mr J. Holland
Deputy Headteacher

History

GCSE History Revision Guides: Half-Price Offer for Year 10 and Year 11

If your son is currently studying History at GCSE, the History Department is pleased to offer a fantastic opportunity to purchase the official revision guide through the school at half the retail price. We have been able to secure a price of £6.35 per book rather than £12.50.

The revision guide is highly recommended to support your son’s exam preparation.

To secure a copy, please log in to your ParentPay account, where the revision guide has been added as a payment option. Please note that this is a time-limited offer as we must place a bulk order with the publisher. To ensure your son receives his copy, please complete your payment by Friday 2nd October 2026.

Holocaust Education Trust Appeal Dinner

It was an undoubtable privilege to attend the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Appeal Dinner as a Regional Ambassador this year.

Not only did I represent the Trust alongside fellow East Midlands Regional Ambassador Marith Leafe, but I was fortunate enough to listen to Holocaust Survivor Annick Lever and had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet historian Sir Simon Schama.

We spoke of our reflections visiting the site of Auschwitz-Birkenau, and listened intently as Sir Simon spoke of the importance of educating British youth on Jewish history.

The evening reflected on the work of the Trust and its Ambassadors in educating people on the rising issues of antisemitism.

This opportunity would not have been possible without the Carre’s History Department, and since participating in the Lessons from Auschwitz programme in 2024, it has taken me on completely new journeys in life. This is just the next step in my 3-year programme as a Regional Ambassador.

Why Book Presentation Matters

This year we are placing a greater emphasis on neat, well-organised exercise books because research shows that good presentation supports learning in several ways.

  • Clear layouts, headings and legible handwriting help students find and understand information more easily, reducing unnecessary cognitive load and allowing them to focus on the subject content.
  • Well-presented notes also encourage students to think more carefully about how information is organised, helping them remember knowledge more effectively.
  • Careful, controlled handwriting can strengthen memory and understanding.
  • A tidy, organised exercise book becomes a valuable revision tool that students can return to with confidence when reviewing and practising their learning independently.

Our focus is not on creating works of art, but on developing clear, structured books that support learning, memory and long-term success. The school expectations have been shared with all students, so please encourage your son/daughter to ensure that they are following the expectations.

Design and Technology

Year 12 Design and Technology students have started a 4-week project with the company Stormsaver. Ex-student Luke Hedley is the student's contact at the company and is working closely with our Year 12s.  They have been briefed to design and create a “Next-Generation Modular Rainwater Collection Tank”.

A key element of the project is the collection and filtration of rainwater for use in the new sensory garden in the Head's garden. This project is in response to the extreme heat that we have recently had.

Students have taken delivery of a 1500 litre water collection tank that will be in position by the end of September.

Stormsaver are market leaders in water reuse solutions and are based in Nottinghamshire. UK’s Leading Water Reuse Specialists | Rainwater & Greywater Systems

The student who shows the most promise during the project will have the opportunity to take part in work experience at the firm after the project has concluded.

Welcome to the Chapel St Leonards Primary School Virtual Library! Click here to enter: https://chapel-cit.co.uk/chapel-virtual-library/

Sixth Form students from Kesteven & Sleaford High School and Carre's Grammar School kindly took time out of their studies yesterday to read stories for the pupils of Chapel St Leonards Primary School.

The Virtual Library can be accessed anywhere and pupils will also be able to choose one of these books at school, scan a QR code with a tablet and then listen to the story as they flick through the pages.

This is the beginning of an exciting project where we will add to the Virtual Library over time with a wide range of books for the Chapel pupils to choose from.

Mrs Angell Runs for Charity

This month I will be undertaking the British Heart Foundation challenge of running 100 miles during September.

The Charity is important to me as we lost a close family member, rather unexpectedly, to heart complications and that is my motivation!

I would be grateful for any donations to this worthy cause.
