Foreword

As we reach the end of a busy and rewarding half-term, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the many achievements and opportunities that have taken place across our school community. It has been a period characterised by enthusiasm, commitment, and a strong sense of shared purpose.

We were particularly delighted to celebrate the achievements of England and British Lion International and Leicester Tiger captain, Ollie Chessum and his brother, Leicester Tiger Lewis, whose success continues to inspire our students. A photo is included in this edition, and we are proud to highlight their accomplishments. A fuller feature article is available on the school website as part of the CIT News Stories, and I encourage you to take the time to read more about their journey since leaving Carre’s.

This term has also seen a wide range of activities that enrich our students’ experiences beyond the classroom. Our Year 8 STEM Day was a clear highlight, providing opportunities for students to apply their learning creatively and collaboratively. The energy, curiosity and innovation on display were exceptional, and we are pleased to include a write-up and photographs capturing the day.

We are grateful to our PTA for organising a bingo evening to bring together families and staff. Events such as this play an important role in strengthening our community and supporting the wider work of the school in a fun way whilst raising money for the school.

Our ongoing Namibia fundraising efforts continue to gather momentum, demonstrating the generosity and global awareness of our students. Thank you to all who have contributed so far; your support is making a meaningful difference.

In the arts, congratulations go to Fred Brook for achieving Grade 4 Piano — a significant milestone that reflects dedication and musical talent. We are proud of his accomplishment.

We are also proud to introduce our Senior Prefect Team, whose photographs are included in this Newsletter. They have already begun to demonstrate leadership, responsibility, and a commitment to serving the school community, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact they will make.

Looking ahead, we are excited to share details of our Giant Orchestra Day, including the introduction of our new bass drum, which will further enhance the musical opportunities available to our students. This promises to be a fantastic celebration of collective performance and creativity.

Finally, I would like to remind parents and carers that key CIT Policies are available via the link provided, ensuring transparency and clarity in all aspects of our provision.

As always, thank you for your continued support. I wish all our students, families, and staff a restful and enjoyable half-term break.

Mr Law
Headteacher

Rugby Internationals Return to Carre's

England internationals Ollie and Lewis Chessum returned to their old stomping ground recently when they visited us here at Carre's. Joined by their Leicester Tigers teammate Jack van Poortvliet, they were on hand to help raise awareness of an ambitious national initiative launched by Gallagher to boost rugby participation in schools across the UK.

What a fantastic and inspirational day, particularly for our current students.

Thank you for visiting – you are welcome back any time.

Namibia Fundraising

In July, students in Year 11 and 12 from Kesteven and Sleaford High School and Carre's Grammar School will be undertaking an expedition in Namibia.

Part of this trip includes working in a rural Namibian school.  Over the past few months, we have been raising money to replace the blankets and mattresses in the hostel blocks at the schools.  I am happy to announce that we have exceeded our target and have raised a total of £5995.  We will now liaise with the three schools and order all the equipment that they need.  We will also be able to buy school books and stationery.

Thank you so much to all the students who have worked hard to achieve this target, and to all the parents/family members who have supported them!

Students have also been working hard to fundraise towards the cost of their own trips.  I have been blown away by the efforts of many of the students.  Some have covered the cost of the whole expedition through fundraising! They have been carrying out activities such as:

Village bingo nights

Vinted sales

Car boot sales

Sponsored walks and runs

Cleaning

Caring for elderly relatives

Well done to everyone! I look forward to spending time with you all in Namibia.

Mrs M Brook, Teacher of Geography

YEAR 8 STEM Day

Recently our Year 8 students took part in an exciting STEM activities programme (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).  The days featured a range of engaging sessions delivered by both school staff and external organisations, giving students valuable insight into the wide range of STEM careers available.

A team from Siemens in Lincoln delivered a hands-on challenge to construct a vehicle that would safely transport a teddy bear.

The Initiative for Interstellar Studies (I4IS) delivered a fascinating session titled “Skateboards to Starships” introducing students to the possibility of engineering in Interstellar Exploration while linking current physics studies to real world applications.

The final session, “Reaching Altitude”, was delivered by a former student currently undertaking a degree level apprenticeship at SAFRAN. This engaging lesson was on flight and features of aeroplanes.

Mrs Corbould, Senior Science Technician

Music

The Music Department is very excited to receive an Orchestral Bass Drum.  This was purchased through an application for funding made by Mr Linforth, School Business Manager and CIT to the UMUK Sound Foundation.

The bass drum has arrived just in time for this year’s Giant Orchestra Day, where it will be put to very good use and will certainly make its presence felt!

Mrs Quinton, Head of Music

Giant Orchestra Day

This year’s Giant Orchestra Day will take place on Tuesday 30 June in the Sports Hall.

Each year we have approximately 200 musicians from local schools supported by Lincolnshire Music Service, Sleaford Concert Band and The RAF Auxiliary Band who spend the day rehearsing four pieces of music, culminating in a short concert at 3pm.

This year we will be playing: a medley of tunes from the ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ films by John Powell, ‘Fossils’ from ‘Carnival of the Animals’ by Saint Saens, ‘Nessun Dorma’ by Puccini and (following its popular performance at this year’s Superbowl) ‘Baile Inolvidable’ by Bad Bunny.

Carre’s students (and family members) can sign up for the event using this QR code, or contact enquiries@carres.uk.

It should be an amazing day!

A huge well done to Fred in Year 7, who passed his Grade 4 piano exam with a Merit!

Design and Technology Rolls-Royce Careers Talk

Carre's Grammar School Design and Technology Department were delighted to welcome back ex-student Luke Padley.

Luke has progressed on to become the Final Assembly Production Manager, with a focus on quality assurance at Rolls-Royce. Luke delivered an interesting presentation to Year 10 Technology students on his career pathway of an apprenticeship since leaving Carre's.

After the presentation, Luke showcased the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, showing the different engineering considerations and design features.

The students appreciated this informative session and found it very insightful.

The Design and Technology staff would like to extend their thanks to Luke for giving up his time to share his journey.

Junior Maths Challenge Success

On Tuesday 29 April 118, Year 7 and Year 8 students took part in the Junior Maths Challenge, a national competition designed to encourage mathematical reasoning, precision, and problem-solving skills. The challenge included a wide range of demanding questions that tested students’ abilities in logic, algebra, geometry, and number patterns. Participants were encouraged to think carefully and apply their mathematical knowledge in creative and unfamiliar situations.

We are delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students this year. An impressive nine students were awarded Gold Certificates for their exceptional performance in the competition, while thirty-seven students achieved Silver Certificates and thirty-eight students were awarded Bronze Certificates.

Six students qualified for the prestigious Kangaroo Round, which will take place on Tuesday 9 June: Owen Compton, Albie Hughes, Harley Sealey, Henry Cook, Oliver Godfrey and Hayden Skeith.

Special congratulations go to Owen Compton, who achieved both Best in School and Best in Year 7, and to Oliver Godfrey, who achieved Best in Year 8.

Congratulations to everyone involved for their hard work and success, and we wish the students competing in the Kangaroo Round the very best of luck.

PTA Fundraising

Carre’s Grammar School, part of Community Inclusive Trust

Carre’s Grammar School PTA registered charity number 1002210

May 2026

A group of parents from Carre's Grammar School has recently re-established the school's PTA to raise funds to support the school with extra resources to benefit the students.

The PTA is currently raising funds for new outdoor table tennis tables at Northgate Sports Hall which would be available not just for students but also for members of the community outside school hours. We are also supporting the creation of a sensory garden in the school grounds. Lots of other projects requested by the students themselves, via the School Council, will follow.

Our next major event is a Family Bingo session to be held on Friday 3 July. During the evening there will be six games, and we are looking for sponsors for each game of £100 each. Each sponsorship will come with 4 free sets of Bingo cards for the night and your business name and logo would be used on promotional materials, as well as being displayed on screen during the sponsored game and at the interval.

We are applying for a licenced bar for the evening and hot and soft drinks will also be available.

If you are interested in being a sponsor, please contact us on parentsassociation@carres.uk or 07973 330765

There will also be a raffle during the event, naturally, and any donations of raffle prizes would be most welcome. These could either be collected by one of our team or left at the school office clearly marked for the PTA, please. Line and Full House prizes, with values ranging from £10 to £25 would also be much appreciated.

Please do contact us if you need any further information. The closing date for sponsorship is Friday 19 June.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Many thanks
